Alike A3/V7 Documentation

Once you've completed the Download and Install steps, you're ready to log in and finish your setup.

First-Time Web Login

Once you have configured your A3 networking, and your backup storage (ADS) location, you can now begin managing your A3 from a web browser.

Simply point a (supported) browser at your A3's IP, which is displayed on your A3 console:

When you point your browser at this IP, you should see the following:

Use the email address and password of the account you used to create your A3 subscription. If you forget your password, you can retrieve or reset it at portal.quadricsoftware.com. An Internet connection is required to log in. If you do not have an Internet connection and cannot resolve quadricsoftware.com, you will not be able to access your subscription and license your hosts for backup.

Initial Setup Wizard

When you login for the first time, you will be greeted with a mini-wizard to help you setup a few essential settings.

After you log in, please:
1. Add your A3 subscription
2. Add your Hypervisor host servers
3. Confirm Automatic ABD Settings (for Xen/XCP customers only)
4. Install the QHB Agent for your Windows machines

Adding your Subscription

If you're installing an A3, it's likely you already have a subscription plan with us. But if you don't, please visit portal.quadricsoftware.com to set one up! It's quick and there is a plan available to fit every need.

Adding your Hosts

It's important you tell your A3 about the hosts you want to protect: alt_text
Your A3 will automatically license the hosts you add in most cases. But if you need to, you can check or uncheck the "License this system" checkbox when you add your host.

For more details on automatic licensing , please see subscription plan.

To add a host server, simply follow the link from the initial wizard, or navigate to: Systems->Manage Hosts in your Alike UI.

Hosts that are only used for restore do not require licensing.
Quadric Software understands that restoring data shouldn't cost extra, so hosts used as replication destinations or restore targets do not need to be licensed.

Manage ABD Network Settings

ABDs (Alike Backup Delegates) are a critical component for XenServer/XCP customers. (If you do not have Xen, and only use Hyper-V, you can skip this section).

These tiny virtual machines perform much of the work for backup, replicate, and full VM restoration jobs. Understanding how they work is important to keep Alike running smoothly, and troubleshooting any problems that might arise.

ABDs Overview
- Your A3 will automatically add ABD templates to your pool
- Templates are stored on a special, reserved SR managed by your A3
- Whenever a job runs that needs an ABD, your A3 will provision a new ABD VM from this template
- Or, if an ABD VM was created earlier and is now idle, it's reused
- Once an ABD is created, it will remain idle until needed again.

You should double-check your ABD XenNetwork to ensure the proper vlan is being used for your ABDs. If you don't have DHCP, you'll also want to add static IPs for your ABDs. For more information on ABDs, please to the ABD overview.

Alike Backup Agent for Windows Systems

When your A3 needs to connect to a Windows machine, it uses a special installable agent on the Windows end to ensure secure, consistent access. You can learn about how to install Windows agents here.

The QSBAgent must be Installed For:
- Q-Hybrid Backup (in-guest)
- Hyper-V Backup (host server)
- Restore to Hyper-V
- Physical Machine Backup

For more details on setup and installtion of the QSBAgent, please see this section for next steps.

Setup your jobs

You are now ready to configure a job. Please refer to the section on the specific type of job you need:

Manual and Scheduled Jobs

Jobs can be scheduled or defined to run only when you tell it to (manual). For Scheduled jobs, you can choose what days a job will run (eg. everyday, one or more days of the week, or even just a specific day of the month).

Running a Job More than Once Per Day

You can also specify how many times a job will run per-day. By default a job will only run once at the specified date/time, and this can be increased up to "every 15 minutes".
