Alike A3/V7 Documentation

Welcome to the Alike documentation

Settings and Options

Backup Settings

Backups per-VM: By default, Alike will retain the number of backups specified here. These values can be overridden on an individual basis in the VM's settings.

Backups per-VM (Offsite): Same as above, except for offsite versions retained.

Pended Job Timout: Length of time in minutes before a pended job will fail. Jobs will pend when another instance of the job is already running.

GFS Profiles: Define advanced backup retention profiles here. These can be applied to a backup job to enforce GFS (ie. daily, weekly, monthly, etc) backup retention settings. See advanced topics for more information on GFS.

Credential Profiles: Define authentication profiles for access to Windows systems. A profile can be shared for any system to authenticate to a domain, workgroup, or standalone system. AuthProfiles are used for Q-Hybrid jobs, and for Physical systems.

Logging Settings

Logging level: Changes the logging level used by Alike log files. More details can be found here.

Trace level messages: Shows detailed diagnostics in your Alike Job Logs. More details can be found here.

Email Settings

The A3 uses the Quadric Software cloud as its email sender, so as long as your A3 has an Internet connection, it can send you emails. Be sure to double-check your settings via a test email.

Network Settings

Replication TCP Port: This tab allows you to change your replication port from the factory default of 2811, should you need to. This will allow Enhanced (ABD) and Q-Hybrid replication jobs to send data on a different port. This setting does not affect CBT replication. CBT replication uses HTTP/S for its data transport layer.

Set A3 Hostname: On some networks, it's desirable to change the identity of your A3 hostname from factory. You can place your custom host name here.

alt text

Set A3 IP: When your A3 is first created, its IP address is obtained and stored in your ADS. Unfortunately, if you change the IP of your A3, your docker container cannot know this.

A3 HostIP is Critical and Must be Kept Current!
After an IP change to your A3 VM or docker host, A3 will be able to serve web pages and start jobs, these jobs will fail because they cannot connect back to your A3 at the correct IP! This setting must be changed for jobs to run correctly.

Advanced settings

Loose Dedup: Enabling will attempt to improve initial data acquisition times by using similar VMs as a guide.

Read Only: This option can be used to disable scheduling, but does not make your ADS and ODS completely read-only. To do so, please see this KB: TODO

Force ABD to start on source host: Instead of starting the Alike ABD on the pool master, always start the ABD on the most recently seen host of the target VM.

Enable data revalidation by Data Engine: Rehhecks cryptographic integrity of block data during all backend operations.

Enable data revalidation by all components: Rechecks cryptographic integrity of blocks during data acquisition AND all backend operations.

**Post backup data check level: Check data after backups for storage problems. tuning

FS worker thread count: ADVANCED USE ONLY. Please read tuning section for more information.

Delete thread count: Customize the number of threads used to delete dereferenced blocks. See also tuning

Background maint. mins onsite/Offsite: If zero, use factory defaults. Otherwise, spawns background purge work every X minutes. Keeping factory default is recommended.

Work folder for Hyper-v work path: This identity is used in paths by the A3 to identify Hyper-V work directories. If you change this sequence, it can make it easier to find Hyper-V work directories on your Hyper-V hosts.
