A3 7.5 Quick Start Guide


Before You Begin:

  • Register an account on our Customer Portal.
  • Verify you have a trial or plan started and ready to use for next steps
  • Plan your backup storage. NFS is recommended. N.B. Local storage is only intended for POC and testing purposes!
  • Be sure to set your tag to "preview" in the docker-compose.yml file! [Step 6]

Installation Steps

  1. Download and import the A3 VM. For Xen, use our XVA and for Hyper-V use our VHD.
  2. Boot the VM and login to the console with the default user alike, password alike.
  3. Using console option 2, configure networking. 
  4. Verify connectivity & DNS pinging an external website (eg. hub.docker.com)
  5. If you cannot ping, stop! Networking to various websites, such as hub.docker.com and quadricsoftware.com, is required to proceed!
  6. Change the Alike build to "preview". For instructions, please follow this KB.
  7. Now choose menu option 5 to check for updates. Once complete, restart your appliance to ensure all drivers are properly loaded.


Configure Backup Storage

  1. To configure your Backup Storage (ADS), choose option 2 from the console menu. Once complete, make a note of the GUID generated by the process.
  2. Start the A3 services using option 3 and wait for the services to complete.
  3. Open a Web browser and connect to the IP displayed.
  4. Log in to your local Alike UI using your portal account. Do not use any other account! This account will own the A3.
  5. Log into Customer Portal with the same account to assign your new A3 to your plan.
  6. Navigate to Subscription. At the bottom of the screen, click on “Available A3s” and find your GUID noted above in the drop-down list and click "Add"
  7. Your A3 should now show up in the list above with sockets assigned. Adjust the socket count as needed.
  8. Now return to your local A3 and check the Subscription page. Please note- it may take a minute or two to show up.


Starting a Backup

  1. Click on Environment->Hypervisor Hosts and click the “Add New Host Server” button to add Xen or Hyper-V hosts as needed
  2. Then navigate to Jobs->New Schedule to create a new Job
  3. Select “Backup”
  4. Select the machines you want to protect, and choose your options
  5. Save the job and use the green arrow to start the job now

Configuring Agents

  1. Download and install the QS Agent on the Windows machine you wish to protect
  2. Choose the “Full Agent Installation” option when presented
  3. Follow the installation wizard steps to configure the agent and register it with your A3. 
  4. Provide the IP of your A3 server, and select the local IP you wish to use. NB: This local IP must be accessible from the A3 for communication with the QS Agent services.
  5. Once complete, your Agent will show up by its Windows hostname, and will be available to be added to jobs
